COTS takes pride in living our IDEA principles as outlined below.

Mission:
We are physicians, healthcare professionals, and other experts working together to improve the health and safety of our communities (DIVERSITY)

Vision:
Access to the best care and outcomes through collaboration, education, and prevention (INCLUSION)

Values:

  • Optimistic: We have a positive and uplifting attitude and are open to new challenges. Good people, doing good things – we aim to be principled in all aspects of our work (INCLUSION / ASSUME POSITIVE INTENT)

  • Trustworthy: We have caring and personal attitudes toward building our partner relations (TEAMWORK ACROSS DIFFERENCES / ACCESS)

Our ongoing journey to INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & ACCESS 

  • An IDEA Pulse Survey was completed by CMAA Board of Trustees and staff for all organizations. Results will be used to ensure we are meeting our IDEA mission.

    The CMAA IDEA Committee hired a consultant to assist in developing measurable strategic goals for our collaborative IDEA work.

    COTS Board of Trustees and staff participated in a workshop “Exploring the Relationships Around You” and used cards from www.theskindeep.com to have meaningful conversations on IDEA. We will use what we learned to ensure we are meeting our mission and IDEA value statement.

    • COTS Board of Trustees hosted an IDEA Workshop

    • COTS IDEA Workgroup met; enhanced the IDEA Framework and redesigned the COTS Diversity Commitment section of our webpage

    • The CMAA added Juneteenth to its list of paid holidays

    • The CMAA Joint Diversity Committee completed the Harvard Implicit Association self-assessment on Race and hosted a World Café session on race and racism

    • COTS 2022-2024 Strategic Plan approved; all CMAA identified IDEA as a goal

    • COTS strategic retreat identified IDEA as part of its ongoing journey to organizational excellence

    • Joint CMAA IDEA Committee met twice

    • Made-4-Medicine Program initiated; COTS supports project through sharing training rooms and equipment and assisting in obtaining guest speakers

    • COTS offered its Trauma Advisory Board members training by Dr. Jon Groner titled “Combating Racism in Pediatric Trauma Care”; this training is also listed on our website

    • The CMAA developed a Joint IDEA Committee and Charter

    • The CMAA hosted a ½ day retreat to collaborate on organization-wide IDEA goals

    • The IDEA value statement was transformed into an IDEA Framework and added to our website

    • COTS Board of Trustees member IDEA matrix developed and is utilized during board membership replacement

    • Dating back to 2005, the Franklin County hospital systems have worked together to address health education needs for low literacy and limited English-speaking patients by launching https://www.healthinfotranslations.org/. The website offers free patient education materials that are easy to read in English and 14 different foreign languages. COTS participates in the review of emergency preparedness and response education as the subject matter expert.

    • COTS developed an IDEA Workgroup and an IDEA value statement

    • COTS Board of Trustees held an IDEA Workshop

    • COTS Board approved the 2020 – 2022 Strategic Plan; all Columbus Medical Association affiliates approved IDEA goals in their strategic plans

    • March 2019 Strategic Retreat chose to promote IDEA as part of our operational excellence goal
